Youtube and ads catering to the majority

You tube has become famous for letting people put up videos for viewers to watch. The content that is displayed on YouTube is becoming increasingly important to many viewers. People even get paid to do reviews on products or depending on how many viewers they can get on YouTube. YouTube allows you to market yourself or a product to a wide variety of people. Many people such as Justin bieber, rihanna, kanye West and a number of other celebrities were discovered from YouTube. I think that YouTube is a great example of advertising and using a plan to market your message to many different viewers. YouTube also offers many online reality shows and helps bring revenue to many different viewers. I think that in some ways YouTube has gotten bigger than watching TV or reality shows. What is more of a reality than watching real life people with no scripts posting videos on YouTube? I think aside from marketing products you as a person can also market yourself to the world. Along with that come a lot of social stigmas. People only watch or want to see what their interested in or what is in at the time. Marketers often get lost trying market products to the majority without ever realizing that some people think and feel a completely different way. Sometimes ads focus on being different from the crowd but I think the majority of ads focus on the majority; if you do not have a certain product than you’re not cool and if you do not wear a certain thing than you’re missing out. I think companies that focus on minorities that many not have a lot are smarter.

If every company claims to have good hair than how do you figure that out without first purchasing the products? It can be very expensive to purchase hair so you must do your research. Marketing vs advertising

What is the difference between advertising and marketing? Advertising is a step in marketing. Advertising tells a story about something to attract attention. Marketing is a plan or steps that you take to not only attract consumers but to attract buyers and sellers. Marketing and advertising both go hand in hand and that they use certain things to attract consumers and buyers alike. I am more aware of the process of advertising than what marketers do to persuade customers. I think it is because every time I turn on the television I see a commercial or an advertisement. People actually sit down and create these advertisements. People specialize in the psychology marketing and use that knowledge to push their products to consumers. I think it’s fascinating.

Internal influences

Markerters often have a specific stategy that they use in order to draw people into the product. Consumers go through a process call cognition which is the thinking and mental process that helps us store information. People will react to an ad depending on their personalities. After consumption of the product the consumer usally feels either satisfacation from the experience or disappointment. The value of a product depends on if the after affects are positive after you give. Two different types of value are Utiliatarian value verus Hedonic value. An example of a Utiliatarian value would be roach spray. People use roach spray to fix a problem but it does not generally bring them happiness. Toilet paper is also an example of Utiliatarian value because we need it for a specfic purpose but it does not give any experience or emotional value. An example of a hedonic value would be going to six flags and riding on all of the roller coaster. The situation is more about the experience and can give you a postive or negative reaction. Consumers go about creating value for customers in different way. Coca- Cola launched “Coke side of life” campaign to create happy feelings and to make the customer feel included. The campaign also reaches out to different life styles and it is understanding of different levels of happiness. Happiness is different for everyone depending on their living situations. A customer must play a part in the buying process for it to be successful. The more customer involvement the better affect that it will have on the consumer.

People addicted to shopping online

According to a recent poll approximately 71 percent of people are addicted to online shopping. Online shopping offers several benefits that can appeal to a potential shopper. Online shopping offers more sales, the ability to avoid unwanted lines and a wide selection of products at your finger tips. People that cannot leave their house or do not like to commute also benefit from online shopping. Online shopping is usually marketed to consumers by showing them how convenient online shopping can be. A survey done by Chinese youth daily surveyed 2,580 and 25.6 thought they were seriously addicted and 45.5 considered themselves moderately addicted. What is it about online shopping that intrigues people so much? The internet often offers a sense of security to people that they might not otherwise experience in the stores. People go online, they search for what they want and then they buy it. Shopping online is a relatively simple process with not that much of a hassle; there is no bad customer service, no hassle, no commute and certainly no lines. The only drawback that most people have with on line shopping is waiting for the package to be delivered and not being able to try things on. Females experience shopping addictions more than guys. Many women go online and shop and some actually find the process relaxing. As lifestyles get busy online shopping will continue have a huge market for their customers. Online almost everything around the world is at your finger tips and that just makes the process even more exciting.

Advertising appealing to emotions

I was reading up on people who specialized in the psychology of advertising. I found John B. Watson the founder of behaviorism to be very interesting. Watson believed that in order for advertising to be effective it had to appeal to three emotions which are love, fear, and hate. I think that this concept of ad psychology is very true and that many consumers end up buying a product depending on how it makes them feel. A good example of that is how purfume commericials usually are either sexual, include a fantasy or try to appeal in some part to these emotions. Marketers of the product will put the purfume with a sexy woman that will than make a consumer feel sexy if they buy the product. The sasme effect can be felt with a product like toothpaste, Although toothpaste is not sexy having white teeth is. Ads about toothpaste usually have an attractive person with good teeth and use that to create a need in consumers. People want white teeth and if they believe that the product will deliver the results that they saw in the commercial they will buy it. The product will sell depending on how convicing the commercial is for the consumer. Another psycologists that I discovered that had an impact on ads was Gale Harlow. He was interested in how people process ads and considered the step by step reaction from seeing the ad to purchasing a product. He pretty much believed that advertising had a cycle of effects that eventually led to the purchase of the product.
